Chapter 8 - Increase Focus

Single Focused Tone

A standing bell plays a single tone with a long sustain, creating a focus on that specific pitch of sound that resonates long and true. Like the bell, we can develop a practice of sustained, mindful attention on the most important aspects of our work and life. Through managing distractions, lessening reactivity, and learning to focus the mind on specific areas, concentration can grow to allow our thoughts and ideas to resonate long and true.

Increase focus through mindful attention.

Develop deeper focus and concentration on what is most important.

Discover the importance of mindful, single-focused concentration to accomplish what is most important. Focus is a powerful skill, but one that’s increasingly hard to cultivate due to the distractions, stress and tension that we face within the workplace and the world in general. The constant tugs for our attention from our technology cause the mind to constantly be in a reactive mode instead of finding a place of dedicated focus.

In this chapter, you will learn how the brain is pulled into a fight or flight syndrome and how to help control that through managing your reactions. The techniques for managing distractions will create the opportunity for more single-minded focus. And the information on positive focus will help you to find a place of centeredness where there’s a stronger balance.
