Chapter 3 - Activate Leadership

Unique Style

A piano has 88 keys that when played in certain combinations create full and rich chords that provide the strong foundation of the music. The unique selection and sequencing of the chords creates the feeling of the composition, providing the core message of the music to the listener. Like the chords on a piano, a leader provides a strong foundation for the team. Each leader has a unique combination of traits that provide the core message of leadership.

Activate leadership through positive strengths.

Display a positive leadership style by minimizing negativity and sharing positivity.

Discover your unique leadership style. Learning the evolution of leadership theory and how it has changed through the years can provide clues on how you tend to lead. Every leader has a unique style that is their default mode of leading, and learning to recognize the default mode allows you to know when you need to flex the style to fit a certain leadership situation.

In this chapter, you will be introduced to the Harmonic Leadership Wheel, a simple model used to better understand and delineate between different leadership styles. The wheel displays the Positive Strengths that leaders display to create a positive organization, as well as the Negative Challenges that leaders might show when stressed. The concept of the Center Point of Care will be introduced to describe how to flex to meet the needs of others.
