Chapter 2 -
Heighten Performance
The Tempo of Leadership
In a band, the drum is in charge of creating a consistent tempo that allows the other players to clearly know the beat and rhythm of the music. If the drummer can’t be consistent, the music is awkward and confusing to the other players. Like the drum, a leader keeps the rhythm for the team in both managing the work, and leading the people in a way that is consistent and easy to follow along with, driving the beat of the work.
Heighten performance by aspiring to achieve goals.
Utilize balanced management and leadership to set and reach aspirational expectations.
Leadership is an act of courage that requires bravery. To have a desire to be on the stage of leadership takes drive and determination. For those who choose to take on the challenge and responsibility, it can be an extremely rewarding activity that leads to making a great and positive impact in the world. Leadership is also a balancing act that requires constant monitoring and course correction. Like a lead-singer in a band, the leader is highly visible, and must carefully perform within the constant view of others.
In this chapter, you will learn how to maintain proper balance and lead in a way that is investing in your followers through setting aspirational expectations, guiding them in a direction that builds success.
